Inside Snow Globe

Snow Globe mixes seasonal standards with new Erasure songs. The appeal is in the atmosphere: chilly electronic sounds, an occasionally unsettling mood, and Andy Bell finding fresh feeling in familiar material. It is a useful winter listen for anyone who likes the idea of a Christmas record but has had enough of the usual cheerful playlist.

“Gaudete” provides the arresting public hook, but “Bells of Love (Isabelle’s of Love)” and “Make It Wonderful” are essential to the record’s identity. The electronic arrangements keep sentiment from becoming syrup and allow the darker winter tones to remain visible.

This is not the first Erasure album to play in July. It is, however, more than a December playlist. The 2024 pink-vinyl reissue returned the core album without turning it into an expanded archive project.
