Inside Wild!

Wild! is a good choice when you want Erasure at their biggest and most colorful. After a brief piano introduction, “Blue Savannah” and “Drama!” arrive in quick succession. “Blue Savannah” is full of longing; “Drama!” is more accusatory and theatrical. Both have enormous choruses.

The quieter songs keep the album from becoming overwhelming. “How Many Times?” slows things down after the opening singles; “La Gloria” leads into “You Surround Me” on the CD; “Crown of Thorns” brings a more serious mood before “Piano Song” returns in full. Gareth Jones, Mark Saunders, and Erasure give the record a lavish sound without letting the arrangements bury the songs.

Hear it after The Innocents. It takes the big melodies and expressive singing of that album into grander, more theatrical settings.

Edition notes

Early editions of the UK vinyl release of the album were bundled with a free copy of the ‘Blue Savannah’ XL12″. The CD edition has a segue between ‘La Gloria’ and ‘You Surround Me’ which does not appear on other formats.
