Inside Wild!

Wild! announces expansion without abandoning control. A brief “Piano Song” opens the door, “Blue Savannah” crosses it in full color, and “Drama!” makes theatricality part of the music rather than decoration around it.

The album’s scale works because the sequence keeps finding counterweights. “How Many Times?” pulls inward after the opening singles; “La Gloria” slides into “You Surround Me” on the CD; “Crown of Thorns” adds weight before “Piano Song” returns in full. Gareth Jones, Mark Saunders, and Erasure produce a record that feels lavish but rarely shapeless.

Hear it after The Innocents. The earlier album is the cleaner front door; Wild! is the room beyond it, where Erasure discovers how large its pop world can become without losing the human voice at the center.

Edition notes

Early editions of the UK vinyl release of the album were bundled with a free copy of the ‘Blue Savannah’ XL12″. The CD edition has a segue between ‘La Gloria’ and ‘You Surround Me’ which does not appear on other formats.
